Why task generation can take time
Task generation usually takes a few minutes, but it can take longer when the platform is busy or when tasks contain more complex problems, such as multi-step questions or advanced mathematics content.
While there is no fixed time limit, it is reasonable to allow up to 30 minutes for all tasks to generate. Teachers should be encouraged to prepare tasks before class begins.
This process was changed from previous behaviour for a few important reasons:
- Content can be updated throughout the day.
- Tasks were previously generated on demand when a student started them.
- This could result in students receiving different versions of the same question.
- More advanced questions could take too long to generate, which sometimes prevented tasks from loading properly.
By generating tasks in the background, Mathspace helps ensure that all students receive the same version of each question and can move through tasks without delays between questions.
